15 April, Kathmandu: The prime minister and members of the cabinet will from now onwards not spend amounts for snacks while attending cabinet and other meetings.

The decision was reached after Prime Minister Sushil Koirala urged cabinet members to adopt austerity in government expenses.

Informing this at a public programme today, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam said “There will be no expenses on snacks in meetings, discussions and cabinet meetings with ministers by the prime minister.” This will save Rs. 80 – Rs. 100 million of the state coffer.

Please come in meetings after tea and breakfast in the morning from residence and there will be only tea and biscuits in the meetings in afternoon and evening, DPM Gautam quoted PM Koirala as saying.  It has already been implemented, said Gautam.

Speaking at the 20 Th anniversary of Norvic International Hospital, DPM Gautam urged the hospital to pay attention on service rather than profit.

The hospital started with 15 beds has now 200 beds and prioritises heart treatment and research.Stressing on the need for treating impoverished by charging the prosperous, he thanked the hospital for exempting him when he was unable to pay.

Health Minister Khagaraj Adhikari urged not to be profit oriented and added that there was question of quality of service in private and government hospitals.

He also informed that new policy was in the offing for quality service. Dr. Rabiratan Kesariwal, Dr. Sachche Kumar Pahari, Prof. Dr. BB Karki, Dr. Ramesh Chokhani, nurses Rameswori Shrestha and Babita Lama were honored on the occasion.

Hospital Executive Officer Rajendra Bahadur Singh informed that Lunkaran Das Chaudhary Diagnostic Centre was launched from today. RSS
