5 August, Waling (Syangja): The schools here have been closed for a week following the outbreak of seasonal influenza A (H1N1).

The outbreak of the influenza in Waling Bazaar has forced the closure of private schools in Waling and Bhirkot municipality.

“The schools have been closed until August 12 in coordination with the concerned stakeholders due to the unease that everyone feels in the presence of crowd in the current scenario,” District Education Office (DEO), Syangja’s Source Individual, Bharat Prasad Bagale said. “The DEO has given permission with the decision to substitute the current closure with the coming school holidays,” he added.

A total of 17 educational institutes in and around the bazaar have been closed. A test carried out on blood samples and a throat swab culture on 20 individuals found A (H1N1) influenza on five and influenza B on one.

A person had died on July 16 from the influenza after which samples were collected from 20 individuals living in and around Waling.

The disease is contaminated with contact with the patient, according to Waling Primary Health Centre’s Dr Prabin Ghimire. RSS
