June 6, Kathmandu: Hetauda Municipality of Makwanpur District has been declared the cleanest city in the country for 2014.

The declaration was made on the the occasion of the World Environment Day by the Solid Waste Management Technical Support Centre under the Ministry of Urban Development declared

The municipality was honoured with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs and a Letter of Appreciation during a programme organised in Lalitpur to announce the Cleanest City-2014. Dharan municipality of Sunsari was second, while Bhaktapur municipality third. They were honoured with Rs 3 lakhs and Rs 2 lakhs, respectively, and a Letter of Appreciation each.
