Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the impeachment motion against Chief of Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Lokman Singh Karki, would be forwarded on the basis of national consensus.
Prime Minister said, “Chairman of the CPN (UML), Nepali Congress President and I sat together before registering the impeachment motion. We stressed that whatever activities are carried out should be through consensus. I have stressed that all political parties should support the impeachment motion even as the process has begun after its registration.”
During a meeting today with media persons covering the Maoist party beat and the Office of the Prime Minister, PM Dahal said that discussion was on between CPN (Maoist Centre) and Nepali Congress on how to move ahead on the impeachment motion rather than what has been reported as the ‘increasing distrust’ between the two parties after the registration of the impeachment motion in Parliament.
On the occasion, he urged media persons to create a positive environment that supports constitution implementation, national unity, fostering friendly relations with neighbouring countries and economic development.
‘Constitution amendment soon in consensus’
The Prime Minister said meetings with the political parties has been intensified with the objective of giving final shape to the constitution amendment by forging consensus among the ruling and the opposition parties.
“Only today we held informal discussions with the Madhesi Morcha regarding the constitution amendment,” he said.
According to him, discussions have been held regarding amending the constitution with much focus on the four issues – delineation of province borders, language, modality of representation in the National Assembly and citizenship.
The PM stated that monitoring was being carried out to take forward the reconstruction works in all the earthquake-affected districts simultaneously.
He was of the view that his visit to India has helped reorient the Nepal-India ties towards the positive. “A proposal had come in course of my recent visit to Goa (India) to ink some agreements between Nepal and China. But I have said agreements to be signed between Nepal and China should be initialled only in Kathmandu or Beijing,” he added.
Prime Minister Dahal said the government is preparing for holding the local, provincial and the federal elections.
On public holiday on the day of Indian President’s visit
The Prime Minister has made it clear that the decision to give a public holiday on the day the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee arrives in Nepal on a state visit has been made with the consensus of all the parties.
“This topic of the practice of giving public holiday when the President of another country is paying a state visit had come up during the all-sides discussions. It was said that sometimes there was this practice while at other times there was not. A public holiday was announced on that day (President Mukherjee’s visit) to express respect to the visiting dignitary and also that the people would not face the inconvenience of traffic jam,” the Prime Minister said.
The Indian President’s visit that is taking place after a long time, is important, he added. RSS
