10 Sept, Bhaktapur: The Manohara River, which has turned into a trash dumping site lately and has been bearing the brunt of wanton encroachment by human, will be cleaned on a weekly basis on every Saturday to help it regain its chastity.

A civic drive named Manohara River Cleaning and Conservation Campaign was launched on Saturday in Manohara River and will be carried on every Saturday from 6:30 am to 9 am for next 52 consecutive weeks.
The River bordering Kathmandu and Bhaktapur district origins from Madichud and flows down through the holy Shalinadi River at Shanku in Kathmandu.

According to Campaign Coordinator Rudra Bhattarai, the River would be cleaned in every stretch of it from Shalinadi to Jatibudi in Bhaktapur.

Around four metric tonnes of wastage was scooped from the River on the first day of the cleaning campaign, according to Coordinator Bhattarai.

The High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization, Kageshwori Municipality, Bhaktapur District Coordination Committee and Kathmandu Metropolitan City ward no 32 among others will be joining this newly launched Campaign. RSS
