19 August, Kathmandu: Nepali currency depreciated to historic low of Rs 100.60 against greenback on Monday, thanks to the further depreciation of Indian currency to which Nepali currency is pegged at rs 160 for IRs 100.

For the first time in the history, Nepal Rastra Bank fixed the reference selling rate of U.S. dollar in three digits for Tuesday. The central bank had fixed the rate of Rs 99.02 for Saturday and Sunday on Friday.

The reference buying rate has been fixed at Rs 100. However, the market exchange rates quoted by different commercial banks may differ under the current system.

The Indian currency fell to a new record low of IRs 62.78 against the dollar today.
