Birgunj, Jan. 5: Stakeholders here have laid emphasis on making legal education extensive and effective in order to increase the access of the general public to the judicial system of the country.

Speaking at an interaction on ‘Easy access of the general public to Justice and the effectiveness of the Legal Aid Committee’ organized by RACE Nepal and Narayani FM Birgunj here today, they said the government should make the legal aid committee organized and effective in order to increase the access to justice of the poor, backward and marginalized citizens.

They were of the view that the legal aid committee was becoming less effective in absence of required human and financial resources, while majority of the citizens are awareness of the committee.

Speaking at the program, Chief District Officer of Parsa Kailash Kumar Bajimaya accepted that the Committee has not been able to function effectively due to lack of resources while also urging the advocates to come to the aid of the poor, backward and marginalized service recipients.

Nepal Bar Association Parsa Chair and member of the Committee Shalikram Prasad pledged to provide free legal aid to the economically and socially backward community.

Federation of Nepali Journalists, District Chair KC Lamichhane suggested better coordination and collaboration among the stakeholders for the effectiveness of the Committee. RSS
