2 June, Kathmandu: At least 16 Indian pilgrims died and dozen others were injured in a bus accident that happened at  Gotibang VDC-1 in Pyuthan district on Monday evening, local police said.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.

Security force said that nine passengers died on the spot and others died on the way to the hospital and while receiving treatment in the hospitals.

The passenger-bus (Lu 1 Kha 3803) was en route to Krishnanagar of Kapilvastu district from Sworgadwari Temple– the religious shrine in Pyuthan district in Nepal’s mid-west region. Most of the injured are Indian pilgrims who were returning home in the ill-feted bus after paying homage in Sworgadwari Temple.

Most of the injured passengers have been rushed to Butwal for treatment while some are receiving treatment in Pyuthan and Dang districts.

The administration said that the officials and security persons are continuing the rescue job.
