Bhaktapur, Jan. 10: Residents of Bhaktapur district are facing acute shortage of drinking water these days.

Though the demand for drinking water is normally less in winter season, locals of the district are adversely affected, as the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) has been able to meet only 30 per cent of the total demand.

Over, 80 to 85 lakh litres of water is required in the Bhaktapur municipality region in the district but we have been able to meet only only 30 per cent of it, said Amrit Pote, KUKL, Bhaktapur Office Chief.

The problem is a result of the water sources going dry during winter. ‘Locals visit us dialy with their complaints and we convince them by showing our reality’, Pote added.

The main problem of producing and supplying water are load shedding and the rapid construction of cemented houses, he added.

Lack of maintenance and replacing of old supply pipes, leakage in water supplying pipes, arbitrary cutting and joining of the pipes to the main supplying line, not using record metres and use of drinking water for building constructing purposes are the major reasons of this problem.

Pote also said that his office is preparing to add two deep boring units and to supply waters through tanker in coming days. RSS
