29 Aug, Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has said that consensus was needed rather than agitation during this time adding that constitution writing process has reached in its final phase.

During a meeting with the leaders of Dalit movement, PM Koirala said that the demands of Dalit community including the provision of separate constituencies for Dalits in the new constitution would be resolved through talks, discussion and collaboration.

Talking to the National News Agency (RSS) after the meeting, central committee member of the Nepali Congress, Min Bishwokarma, said PM Koirala assured of putting their demands at the meeting of four political parties and problems would be resolved.

Other leaders of Dalit movement including Chhabilal Bishwokarma, Bishwobhakta Dulal ‘Ahuti’ and Parshuram Ramtel urged to table the amended proposal on constitution draft. Deliberation on the constitution bill is going on at the Constituent Assembly (CA).

On the occasion, former lawmakers Binod Pahadi, right activists Durga Sob and Bhakta Bishwokarma, among others were present.

Likewise, activist Padam Sundas said that they would continue their agitations, saying Prime Minister Koirala did not take any initiatives to address their demands.

Sister organisations of different political parties, Dalit community and Dalit fraternity have been launching agitations after the preliminary draft of the new constitution was unveiled. They have claimed that the rights of Dalit community passed from the CA were curtailed in the draft constitution. RSS
