19 May, Lahan: An argument over drinking habit of a hubby turned ugly in Gadha-9 of Siraha on Saturday mid-night that ended in a shootout—eventually husband killing his wife in the district.
The accused Shyam Sundar Mahato (35), gunned down his wife Babita Mahato (30) in their residence in booze high.
Mahato shot his wife in the chest with a homemade gun. She succumbed to the bullet injuries on the spot.
Police have recovered a handmade gun, and there ammunition from their house, according to District Police Office, Siraha.
According to the preliminary investigation, the police have suspected the internal dispute over husband’s drinking that led to the tragedy.
After committing the crime, the alleged killer ran away from the incident site leaving two children—a son, and a daughter behind.
The police have carried a man hunt in the area in search of the murderer.
Further investigation on the case is underway, police said.
