17 Jan, Kathmandu: Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav has said that there was no possibility of holding elections before coming April if the government failed to provide laws regarding election by end of this month.

Speaking in a face-to-face programme organized by the Reporters Club here today, Yadav shared that they were seeking new laws for timely elections.

He added that government, formed after the Second Constituent Assembly (CA) had prioritized to hold local poll within six months at that time but the Commission is still waiting for the election laws so far.

The Chief Election Commissioner shared that the commission was working out on various issues including updating voter’s list, ballot papers, ballot box among others saying that they work 24hours if government provides laws regarding the elections.

Yadav further said that the local poll was not possible in a single date across the country and for ‘phase wise’ election commission was consulting with security bodies. RSS
