In order to reduce dependency on petroleum products and cooking gas, exploration of and drilling for petroleum products and cooking gas within the country would be carried forward with priority, according to the government’s policies and programmes. Likewise, storage capacity would be increased.

Supply management would be made more effective for food security in remote and inaccessible areas including Karnali zone.

Timely completion of hydropower projects
Special priority would be given to the timely completion of electricity production, transmission and distribution projects under construction, while preparing nation-wide network-building master plan of electricity transmission line and expediting construction of necessary domestic and cross-border transmission lines.

Similarly, emphasis would be given to the implementation of multipurpose reservoir project for the development of irrigation, energy and drinking water in order to ensure ecological balance and sustainability through integrated hydropower development management.

Priority to Irrigation projects
Various irrigation projects would be implemented by using innovative technology in order to provide year-round irrigation facility to all arable land within few years. Besides, special programme for prosperous Tarai-Madhes irrigation development would be launched in 22 districts of Tara and inner-Madhes.

As per the policies and programmes, construction of various projects would be intensified for their timely completion through mobilisation of human resources, including under construction Sikta, Bheri-Babai Diversion, Babai and Rani Jamara Kularia irrigation projects among others, while launching Bheri Corridor Multipurpose Development Project and carrying forward study and implementation of Kankai Multipurpose Irrigation and Kaligandaki-Tinau Diversion.

Focus on climate change
As part of the need to revise environmental standards for controlling air, water, sound and land pollution, emphasis would be given to the implementation of climate change treaties and conventions to which Nepal is a party.

Researches on drying up of water sources
Studies and researches would be carried out on the depletion and drying up of water sources and appropriate technology utilised in order to harvest rain water; and reservoir based drinking water system developed along with protection of watershed areas.

The five-year strategic plan for the development of road, rail and other types of transportation would be implemented besides upgrading all roads connecting to every centre of all the seven provinces to at least two-lanes and they will be black-topped.

Tatopani customs to be operative soon
In tune with the agreements signed recently with the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the operation of transit facility, expansion of electric transmission line, construction and upgradation of Rasuwagadi and Kimathanka roads would be carried out and Tatopani customs brought into operation soon along with the upgradation of the Araniko Highway.

Road links to Humla and Dolpa
All district headquarters including that of Humla and Dolpa would be linked to road network within two years, while public tuins (wire bridges) across the country will be replaced by suspension bridges within the next fiscal year.

Driving license to be replaced with smart cards
The system of embossed number plates would be implemented in the vehicles. While continuation with replacing driving licenses with smart cards, vehicles ownership certificates will also be transformed into smartcards.

Similarly, cities would be made the base of economic growth by developing rural-urban inter-linkages, apart from developing it as per the concept of One City, One Identity designed for promoting tourism and diversifying trade and business. ‘National Building Code’ will be strictly enforced.
Likewise, arrangements would be made for the construction, repair and maintenance, protection and supervision of the government-owned buildings through a single entity. RSS
