26 April, Khajura (Banke): The country’s first-ever open jail is to be constructed in Banke district. The Department of Prison Management has started construction of open prison on six bighas of land of agriculture farm in Ganapur of the district.

Department’s Director-General Shambhu Koirala said, “All internal preparatory works are over. The construction works would begin after opening tender process within this fiscal year”.

The prison would have 100 rooms In the first phase considering basic requirement of one room for each.

The Department claims that the construction would begin from the current fiscal year and complete within 3-5 years. The open prison would be well-managed and equipped with facilities than other prisons. RSS
