20 Feb, Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has asked the leaders of Madhes-centric political parties to help in conducting local level poll as the government was preparing to announce the poll date.

During a meeting held between the leaders of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Nepali Congress and Madhesi Morcha at the Prime Minister’s official residence late this evening, the PM sought support from the Madhes-centric leaders to conduct poll as there was no alternative to the local level’s poll for constitution’s implementation.

However, the Madhesi leaders have said that they have difficulties to accept the PM’s proposal at the very moment.

PM’s political advisor Chakrapani Khanal said that the meeting dwelt on constitution amendment and the date announcement for local level’s poll.

On the occasion, PM Dahal has informed the leaders of Morcha about the government’s plan to immediately announce the local level’s poll.

Informing that the government was working to increase the number of local units keeping in view of the density of the populace in Madhes, PM Dahal urged leaders of Madhesi Morcha to join the local level elections essential to break the current political deadlock while assuring them of getting the constitution amendment bill passed through Parliament.

In return, Morcha leaders urged the PM to announce the date for the polls only after concluding the bill while reminding that their main concerns were on the constitution amendment alongside revision of provincial boundaries.

The meeting was also attended by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi, Maoist Centre leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Morcha leaders Mahanta Thakur, Rajendra Mahato, Mahendra Raya Yadav and Rajendra Shrestha among others. RSS
