3 August, Kathmandu: The High Level Political Committee (HLPC) meeting, held at New Baneshwor-based secretariat on Saturday decided to send fresh invitation to 33 parties, including CPN-Maoist, for talks in a bid to bring them on board the election process. “We have decided to send fresh invitation as per the demand made by the CPN-Maoist-led alliance,” said UCPN (Maoist) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, after the meeting.

The meeting decided to issue separate invitation letters to the poll-opposing parties, according to the leaders who took part in the meeting.  Earlier, the cross-party mechanism had addressed the CPN-Maoist only in its letters while inviting the alliance of protesting parties to the negotiation table.

Responding to the alliance’s demand that the government recognised its existence, the HLPC decided to dispatch separate invitations to the parties. Some fringe parties had expressed their dissatisfaction over the invitation letters that acknowledged the CPN-Maoist only.

The CPN-Maoist led 33-party alliance meeting held at CPN-Maoist head office on Friday said that the alliance would sit for talks with the government only after receiving invitation from the government addressing all the 33 parties in the alliance.
