26 August, Kathmandu:

CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya on Wednesday demanded that the mobilisation of the Nepal Army in the riot-hit Tikapur of Kailali should be withdrawn.

Expressing his worries over the August 24 Tikapur incident that had killed eight people, mostly police personnel, he said the incident took place due to sheer negligence of the Home Ministry and that the government should call back the mobilised army personnel.

“Why only 40 police personnel were mobilised to deal with as much as 40,000 protesters? The incident occurred due to the negligence of the state,” said Baidya, while speaking in a press conference in the capital today.

He said that there were efforts to start suppressing ‘long-suppressed’ Tharu community in Kailali district with the help of the local administration, calling for curbing this.

He was of the view that solution to the existing problems should be sought through an all-party political meeting after halting existing proceedings of the Constituent Assembly.

Saying that the constitution that is to be promulgated by mobilising Nepal Army and imposing curfew could not be sustainable, he urged political parties to seek a solution to the existing problems through all-party dialogue. He also appealed to maintain social harmony.

Stating that the government failed to call his party for talks, he said his party was ready for the same. RSS
