21 Oct, Kathmandu:

The largest political party in the Legislature-Parliament, Nepali Congress, has expressed dissatisfaction over the registration of an impeachment motion against Chief Commissioner at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Lokman Singh Karki.

The Nepali Congress, arguing that the impeachment motion was brought unilaterally and without holding discussion with the major ruling partner, decided that it would bring forth decision after holding extensive discussion in the central committee meeting.

Most of the central committee members speaking at Thursday’s central committee meeting sought response from the party leadership why the resolution was forwarded unilaterally.

However, the party said it would take a judicious decision in this regard, as it was entered in the sovereign parliament.

As the impeachment has now become an issue in parliament, even the parliamentary party would hold discussion on it, said central member Dilendra Prasad Badu.

In addition to the impeachment motion, the Thursday meeting dwelt on constitution amendment, state restructuring, party operation, organizational form and party’s role in government.

In the very beginning of the meeting, party President Sher Bahadur Deuba said views from all members would be garnered on the impeachment motion, as it was brought without holding discussion with the NC by the UML and the CPN (Maoist-Centre).

“Saying this does not mean the Nepali Congress is supporting Lokman Singh Karki,” said Badu quoting President Deuba.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi also expressed wonder over the registration of the impeachment motion. He questioned dual role of the CPN (Maoist-Centre) on this issue- Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal was not for it, but his party’s lawmakers signed on the resolution.

However, youth leader and Minister for Health and Population Gagan Kumar Thapa argued that Nepali Congress must stand for the truth. There was a grave mistake while appointing Karki as the CIAA Chief. Now the time has come for the NC to correct that mistake, he underscored
The central committee meeting is to take place at 11:00 am Friday. RSS
