5 Feb, Birgunj:

The Birgunj-Raxaul point in the southern plain that came to a halt for long due to the Madhes agitation has resumed from this afternoon.

The supporters of the Madhes-centric agitation launched by those Madhes-based political parties unhappy with the new constitution had been blocking the Nepal-India major trade point since September 24, 2015. They had been staging demonstrations on the Miteri Bridge along the Nepal-India border for around the past five months, bringing all trade activities to a total halt.

Local business people removed tent erected on the bridge and poles placed there by the agitators.

The border came into operation from 13:00 pm Friday. Light vehicles, goods-laden trucks and containers are making their entry and departure via the bridge without obstructions. People’s movement on the border area has increased all of a sudden with the opening of the border.
