Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli pledged that a huge assembly hall accommodating around 5,000 persons will be build in Lumbini within a year.

At a programme organized by Aanandakuti Vihar at Swayambhu in the capital city on the occasion of 2560th Buddha Jayanti on Saturday, PM Oli said Buddhist philosophy and literature bear huge importance towards building a civilized society as the Buddhist education and precept inspire people to be moral and tolerant.

He underscored the need to develop Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, as the Centre for studying Buddhist literature.

Also speaking at the programme Bhikshu Kaudinya and Secretary-General of Ahidal Nepal Bhikshu Mahasangh pointed out the need for exercising Buddhist education for greater good of human. He was of the opinion that the ‘Live and Let Live’ precept propagated by Lord Buddha aims to protect the rights of all creatures to live.

On the occasion, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal W. M. Senevirathna pledged financial support for the reconstruction of the quake-damaged stupa- Aanandakuti Vihar.

Reaffirming that the Buddhist philosophy originated from Nepal, Monk Dhammamurti, Chief of Aanandakuti Vihar, underlined the need to promote and propagate the Buddhist philosophy to rural settlements in the country. RSS
