14 Sept, Saptari:

The general strike enforced by the United Democratic Madheshi Front (UDMF) in Saptari district protesting the state delineation has entered 31 days today.

Locals are hit hard by the general strike as the markets, schools, factories and industries have remained completely shutdown all these days. Daily consumable items, including food items and petroleum products, are in short supply.

Consumers are forced to pay high price for the daily essentials as the main commercial areas at Rajbiraj in the district have been closed for three days and vendors are charging consumers arbitrarily.

The government offices at Rajbiraj look deserted as no service-seekers are seen at the sight following the shutdown.

The agitators have halted the vehicles, plying in both the long and short haul. They have also disrupted various road sections along the East-West Highway in the district.

The shutdown called by Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Sadbhawana Party, Terai Madhesh Democratic Party among other Madhesh-centric parties has entered 31st day, shared Manish Suman, General Secretary of the Sadbhawana Party.

The daily life in other districts across the Terai belt in eastern region has been adversely affected due to the shutdown called by the Front. RSS
