supreme-court-nepal19 Sept-Kathmandu:

Special Full bench of Supreme Court (SC) has begun hearing on seven different cases filed against Khilraj Regmi the Chairperson of Interim Election Council (IEC) on Thursday.

The special full bench of 9 judges including Acting Chief Justice Damodar Prasad Sharma started hearing on the cases after 6 months delay.

Some 24 writes were filed against Regmi’s deputation as the head of Cabinet and 25-point presidential decree issued on March 14 to remove the constitutional hurdles to legitimate the Chief Justice-led government. The SC had been delaying the hearing on the cases showing different reasons.

Advocates have expressed suspicious that SC may be delaying the cusses against Regmi because of his possibility of retaking the post of Chief Justice in the future.

They have also accused SC of favoring Khilraj Regmi giving the cases a political flavor.

Earlier on September 9, the SC had dismissed 17 writes filed against Regmi.

After the first hearing on the cases the full bench has scheduled the next hearing on 1st October.
