27 April, Kathmandu: CPN (UML) chairman KP Sharma Oli has said to have the number of the local level units reviewed when the candidates are being decided following the announcement of the election date is tantamount to rigging the election.

Inaugurating the national election campaign assembly organised by the party’s Central Publicity Department in view of the local level election here today, Chair Oli alleged that acts like distributing electricity poles in the night, transferring the budgetary funds, taking backdated decisions, spreading propaganda against the UML calling foreign experts on hire and creating ‘terror’ in the Nepal Police are all anti- election.

The UML chairman complained that the leaders of the ruling parties gave him irresponsible answer when he reminded them that June 14, the date fixed for the second round of the local election, coincided with the Muslim festival of Ramjan.

“Taking a decision to conduct the election in two phases and seeking to bring the budget before the second phase election too is a plot to prevent the election,” he said, adding that re-introducing the constitution amendment bill that had already been withdrawn is also anti- election and anti-national.

He expressed his annoyance over what he said the misinformation being spread against the UML that it was against the election.

Underlining the need of holding the three-tier elections for constitution implementation, the UML chairman warned that the country would face a political and constitutional crisis if the election of the House of Representatives was not held in between. He also alleged that attempts were being made to repeat the past instances in which a non-political government had to be formed to conduct the election.

Stating that it was a farce to try and arrest Deputy Inspector General of Police, Nawaraj Silwal, on the charge of presenting fake document to the court when what he had presented was the performance evaluation paper bearing the signature of the Home Secretary that had already come in the public, he wondered how the people’s security would be guaranteed in such a situation.

The participating representatives of the UML from across the country working for the party’s election campaign are participating in the closed session of the assembly. The other party leaders will impart orientation to the participants in the closed session which will also chart out the party’s election campaign plans.
