The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is set to kick off the long-awaited e-service from this week aiming at more transparency and quality enhancement of municipal administration.

The service – which was initially scheduled to be introduced on July 16 – was delayed due to management issues, but it will start from this week onwards, KMC Revenue Division Chief, Druba Kafle said.

The service will run in 31 wards as part of a preliminary test, Information Technology Section Chief, Ram Sapkota said, adding that the service will be spread to all the wards after a month’s test.

KMC Spokesperson, Gyanendra Karki, said the metropolitan city’s services will now go paperless and will be technology based. He said the primary aim of introduction of the e-governance system was to provide services at the people’s doorsteps.

The total cost of the e-service funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development will hover around Rs 40 million.

The service seekers can now avail of a plethora of services including property map approval, revenue submission, information on due payments, tax topics, KMC’s work and activities, civilian’s complaints and policy and regulations by surfing the internet.

The e-service will help maintain a direct link between the KMC and the public through citizen interface system, manpower management, exchange of information on employees, revenue management and budget monitoring among others.

KMC believes the e-service will contribute towards bringing in consistency in collection of internal revenue. It will keep the data of all the residents of the city, thereby facilitating it to collect revenue. RSS
