30 July, Chitwan: Number of tiger in Nepal has reached 198 this year from 125 in 2009, which means Nepal is adding nearly 15 tiger every year to global tiger population estimated to be around 3,200.

This was revelead at a programme to mark 4th Global Tiger Day on Tuesday organised jointly by Chitwan National Park and National Nature Protection Trust at Sauraha, Chitwan.

In Chitwan alone, number of tiger has reached 120 this year which was 91 five years ago.

According to Kamal Jung Kunwar, chief protection officer at Chitwan National Park, the number of tiger in Chitwan National Park is 120, Bardiya National Parrk 50, Banke National Park 4, Suklaphanta Wildlife Reserve 17 and Parsa Wildlife Reserve 7.

The number of spotted tiger which is listed as endangered increased due to regular monitoring for tiger protection, management of habitat and foods and effective works to control smuggling of tigers.
