Afghanistan has created a history in the SAFF Championship by wining its maiden trophy with a 2-0 defeat against defending Champion India in final game of 8th SAFF Championship that concluded at Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Afghanistan had created 1-0 lead against India in the first half of the game with 8th minute Mustafa Azdzoy’s goal. Afghan striker Sanjar doubled the lead by scoring the 2nd goal of the final game at 61st minute.

Indian players despite various good moves could not cash the goal in the final game. Afghanistan that was defeated with 4-0 by India in SAFF 2011 final held in New Delhi has taken the revenge in Kathmandu by defeating the defending champion.

In the Tuesday’s semi-final Afghanistan had beaten host Nepal team with 1-0 while India had defeated Maldives on Wednesday to ensure the final entry.
