13 Nov-Kawasoti: It sounds astonishing but true- an election candidate in Nawalparasi district does not know how many VDCs are there in his constituency.

The first-past-the-post candidate of the Sanghiya Ganatantrik Samajbadi Party from Constituency No 2 of Nawalparasi district, Som Bahadur Tamang, is almost unaware about the area of his constituency. So, he is puzzled which places he needs to go for electioneering.

Although he is the permanent resident of Rajhar from Constituency No 1 in the district, the party gave him ticket for Constituency No 2.

It is, he says, is the reason of his uncertainty as far as the election publicity is concerned. “Constituent Assembly election is almost at the door step. All other leaders have gone to villages seeking votes. But, I don’t know where to go now,” he shared his plight.

Tamang further said he does not know how far and wide the Constituency No 2 is. There are 14 VDCs and 52,402 voters there.

Responding to a question why he became a candidate if he did not know the geography of the constituency, he said, “Party told me to contest the election. Then what could I do?”

There are 21 candidates in fray in his constituency.

His party has fielded four for the proportional system while two for FPTP system of CA election from the district.

Not only Tamang but also other leaders of the party are very new and ignorant of the constituencies which have led to lackadaisical electioneering.

Meanwhile in Pokhara, election candidates of almost all parties continued election publicity and campaigning despite the nationwide transportation strike called by the 33-party alliance here on Tuesday.

UCPN-Maoist candidates- Bishnu Poudel of Constituency No 1, Bakhan Singh Tamu of Constituency No 2, Ramaji Baral of Constituency No 3 and Gupta Bahadur Thakuri of Constituency No 4 kept on electioneering.

It was similar in case of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and Akhanda Nepal Party, Sanghiya Samajbadi Party, and RPP-Nepal.

The CPN-UML organized motorcycle rally and door to door campaign. RSS
