1 Aug, Kathmandu: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, today exchanged congratulatory messages on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the People’s Republic of China.

In his message, President Yadav has expressed warm greetings and best wishes to his Chinese counterpart.

The President has stated that the five principles of peaceful co-existence provide a strong foundation of bilateral relationship and that Nepal respects one-China policy.

He added that the Nepalese people hold the Chinese people in high esteem as true and trusted friend, and this has found the best expression during the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal recently. While expressing his happiness over China’s impressive socio-economic progress over the last six decades, President Yadav expressed best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the friendly people of china.

Likewise, in his message, Chinese President Xi has extended warm greetings and best wishes to President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on behalf of the Chinese Government and people as well as on his own.

The Chinese President stated that China and Nepal are good neighbours, friends and partners.

He further added that the bilateral relations have steadily developed over the past sixty years and the comprehensive cooperative partnership featuring ever-lasting friendship has been established.

President Xi has attached great importance to development of China-Nepal relations and has expressed his readiness to work with the President of Nepal for more fruitful results benefitting both countries and peoples.

Prime Ministers exchange greetings

Likewise, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang also exchanged congratulatory messages on the same occasion.

PM Koirala, in his message, sent to his Chinese counterpart has expressed warmest greetings and heartiest congratulations to Chinese Premier Li and the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China.

He has stated that Nepal-China relations have been nurtured, strengthened and consolidated by mutual respect, understanding, trust and friendship for mutual benefit while expressing his happiness that Nepal and China remain ideal neighbours and have been working closely on issues of common interests at regional and international forums.

He further added that China is Nepal’s trustworthy neighbour, an intimate friend and a reliable development partner. He underlined Nepal’s unequivocally commitment to one- China policy and not to allow any hostile activities on its soil against its neighbours.

PM Koirala also deeply appreciated the Chinese assistance in its development efforts. He expressed Nepal’s deep appreciation for the Chinese humanitarian support in the aftermath of Nepal’s massive earthquake and China’s commitment to substantial support to Nepal’s reconstruction and rebuilding.

The PM also expressed his hope that Nepal would benefit from China’s phenomenal progress and prosperity.

In reference to recent political developments in Nepal, the Prime Minister said that political parties are working in a spirit of national unity and reconciliation to conclude the peace process and have a constitution promulgated through the Constituent Assembly.

In his message, Chinese Premier Li has extended warm greetings and best wishes, on behalf of the Chinese Government and people as well as his own.

The Chinese Premier has mentioned that China and Nepal have always developed relationships on the basis of Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence and have set a good example in building equal and friendly relations between small and large neighbours.

Premier Li added that the Chinese side consistently supports the efforts of Nepali people in maintaining independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and highly appreciates Nepal’s adherence to one-China policy. He has expressed his commitment to continuously upgrade China-Nepal comprehensive cooperative partnership featuring ever-lasting friendship to a higher level.

Furthermore, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mahendra Bahadur Pandey and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi, have also exchanged congratulatory messages. In his message, Minister Pandey stated that mutual trust, great understanding and close cooperation constitute the hallmarks of all-weather warm friendship and strong relations between the two countries.

“China is one of the most important contributors to Nepal’s socio-economic development,” he said adding, “Spontaneous support extended by the Chinese Government to the rescue, relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of Nepal’s recent earthquake as well as the Chinese pledge to the reconstruction, rehabilitation and rebuilding of Nepal has deeply moved the Nepali people.”

Likewise, Chinese Minister Wang has extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Foreign Minister Pandey. Underlining the long history of friendship between Nepal and China, Minister Wang has stated that since the establishment of diplomatic relations the two countries have promoted cooperation in various fields based on mutual respect, support, equality and mutual benefit. Recalling his participation in the International Conference on Nepal’s Reconstruction and his pledge of support, the Chinese Minister expressed his assurance to assist Nepal in its rebuilding efforts.
