10 Jan, Chitwan: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said the decision on giving public holiday on the unity day would be made after political discussion.
Inaugurating the 3rd council of Bharatpur Sub-metroplis on Tuesday, PM Dahal said the role Prithivi Narayan Shah played in nation building is unforgettable. “At a time when the English had colonized neighbouring India, Nepal’s powerful position taken by Prithvi Narayan Shah played significant role to keep the country integrated and united,” the PM lauded the role of the unifier, adding that there was however a debate currently on evaluation of his role in view of the issues of the indigenous community. So, whether to announce public holiday on his birthday depends on a political decision, he added.
He reminded that even the Council of Ministers held discussion on this twice. According to him, every honest citizen should take pride over the history. The annexation of principalities into the unified nation is a progressive step, he underscored referring to the unification of modern Nepal by Prithvi Narayan Shah.
Moreover, the PM who is also the Chairman of the CPN (Maoist-Centre) admitted that even his party was brash on pulverizing everything in the name of peace process. “I stopped the frenzy that was to smash down statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah,” he added.
On a different note, Dahal said he was ready to upgrade the BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital of Chitwan.
He also assured the Chitwan people of various development works in the district with special development package.
