18 Augut, KATHMANDU: People thronged the Office of District Election, Kathmandu on Saturday to register their names for the voters for upcoming Constituent Assembly polls. The government called the voters’ registration for a week after consus among the political parties to extend the registration beginning from yesterday.

According to the District Election Office, Kathmandu, more than 1,700 applied for voter’s registration on the first day of the special voters’ registration process. 

Election Officer Shambhu Prasad Chalise said they would register the voters names through about two dozens of counters to ease the process of registration. “The large majority of applicants were from the districts out side the Kathmandu Valley,” he said.

People only above 18, who have acquired citizenship papers, have been allowed to register their names as they are only eligible to cast their votes for the CA election being held on November 19.

People were uncertain of holding CA election in Nepal again. The positive political development in the country has encouraged people to register their names, according to the officials at the Election Commission.
